CHELSEA RALLY FADES OUT | AFTER INTERVAL , By Our Special Representative Leeps Unirep .. 5 CHELSEA ...... 2 When McAulay put through his own goal after three minutes all the sting went out of: Chelsea's play in the match at Elland-road. | Leeds swept on to an easy victory, and, except: for one brief rally, the London club never looked like snatching the game from the: burning in the second half. Chelsea's torwards were subdued by the bustling tactics employed by the Leeds defence, whe never allowed them to settle down. With the possible exception of Woodley in. goal, the visitors were inferior. They were badly let down by their half- backs, who were not only ineffective in defence but woefully weak in serving the attack. Barraclough, the new winger from Wolver- hampton, had little opportunity to show his worth. CHELSEA LACK PUNCH There was a time early in the first half, after Gallacher and Mills had levelled the scores, when Chelsea might have taken ihe }game in hand. They had the will, doubtless, but they lacked the punch to turn the game in their favour. Mills’ goal for Chelsea was the best of the |match. The credit for it was all his own. The inside left schemed his way past four defenders, and then beat Savage, when the goalkeeper came out to try and smother the ball. After McAulay’s lapse, Furness got, another goal from a corner. Then came Chelsea's rally, only for Hydes, a rare oppor- tunist, to restore the lead for Leeds. Hydes obtained another goal after the in- terval, and Mahon completed the scoring just, before the end with a very simple shot.
